Water sports are a way of life, for many. Most children love to swim and splash around in the water. Once the kids get a little older they begin trying out water sports, such as water skiing and diving; just to name a few. Many schools have swim teams; as an extra curricular activity and this is how many students get started in the world of professional swimming; which leads to the Olympics. The more influential schools offer water polo; as an extra curricular activity and all of these sports can result in scholarships to colleges. There are also triathlons; which include waters sports in their course and being a strong swimmer is a benefit.
To participate in water sports you have to be comfortable in water and your strength as a swimmer must be strong. Your body must be in strong physical condition and you must have good stamina, to accomplish the required skills. There are quite a few water sports surrounding a pool, you have synchronized diving, competitive diving, water aerobics and swimming relays. However, if you are comfortable in bigger bodies of water, such as a lake or the ocean, then there are different sports and skills. When competing in larger bodies of water, you will have skiing, rescue swimming, triathlon swimming and diving/deep sea diving. There are so many types of water sports to choose from, but not all of them can qualify you for the Olympics or even a college scholarship.
Some water sports are strictly recreational and can be done as a family. Whatever your reasons for loving to play in the water, you can either have fun, or take it further and become a professional. Rescue swimmers are very interesting, they train to save lives. Most rescue swimmers become professional lifeguards and even join the coast guard and take their rescues to a higher level. We should be very thankful for these courageous swimmers, because when we are out enjoying ourselves in the water, they are the ones who make sure that we are safe. Now there are sports like diving/deep sea diving and snorkeling and these are recreational sports, but they still require skill, snorkeling not as much. When snorkeling you does not even have to leave the shallow part of the ocean, you can just sit on your knees and bend over, into the water.
However, diving/deep sea diving, takes a lot of skill, when you are that far out into the ocean, you must be aware of your surroundings. This means not all sea creatures are friendly and if necessary, you must know how to swim fast and with a lot of gear on, including an oxygen tank. There are laws to the sea and if you choose to enjoy the ocean, you must be educated on those laws. Water will always be most peoples favorite pass time and our children and our children’s children, will continue to enjoy water sports for years to come.
