The Olympics is best known for it’s acknowledgement of different Winter Sports. We all enjoy watching the Olympic competitions and find ourselves amazed by the skill of these athletes. Until the Olympic Winter Games was televised, many people did not know much about snowmobiling, sledding and definitely not snowboarding. We were aware of Ice-skating; which does not require winter whether. We knew about skiing and even speed skating, but the youth of today are constantly coming up with new sports and these sports are slowly being recognized, professionally, world wide. The difference between regular sports and Winter sports is that Winter sports usually require snow and it only snows in the wintertime.
Snowboarding is derived from another popular sport, skateboarding and this sport has been around for years. Snowboarding is a skateboard, without the wheels, the movement is similar and the stunts are similar. When you are watching Snowboarding, you will feel as though you are watching a skateboarder on ice. Snowboarding is now recognized with the Olympic Association and has been for years; I cannot wait to see what our young youth, comes up with next. The winter sport of snowmobiling has been around for a long time, snowmobiles were originally used in rescue attempts and have been used the iced covered mountains for years and allows the mountain patrols to get around the mountain swiftly. Sledding is the same as; sledding during the wintertime with your family, outside of your home; however, when it comes to the sport, there is a course of solid ice, that you must maintain the sleds balance; as well as your own.
When competing in Winter sports, you have an entirely new element to deal with, you have the snow. People do not know how difficult the snow is, just to live with it, so imagine how difficult it would be to maneuver a skill around it. Figure skating is another winter sport that requires a lot of skill and stamina. This sport requires training in gymnastics, ice-skating and dance, but it is one of the most popular sports. The act of Figure skating is graceful and poised; it is really quite beautiful to watch. For those young athletes interested in participating in Winter sports, the most important thing to know is that it requires snow. This means most winter sport athletes either have grown up around snow or currently live in Countries, cities or towns, where it snows regularly. Your body must be physically fit, to withstand the endurance and the cold environment.
Unbelievably, cold weather controls how you handle your skill and the temperatures can be very distracting. Therefore, I would have to say that Winter sports are among the toughest sports in the world and the athletes that compete, are among some of the strongest and most fit in the world. The Olympics will be coming soon and if you have never taken the time to watch, you should. Get to know these amazing athletes and what they have sacrificed for their sport.
